Jean Monnet Institute is an association under the 1901 law recognized as being of general interest. Its statutory purpose is <em>&#8220;to spread knowledge and understanding of the vision, work and method of Jean Monnet and to ensure that his experience inspires and guides younger generations in their European commitment and decision-makers in the identification of solutions to the major challenges of European construction \u201d<\/em><br><br>The institute is managed by a <strong><a href=\"#administration\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#administration\">Board of Directors<\/a><\/strong> made up of a maximum of twenty members, whose role is to set the broad guidelines for the Institute&#8217;s activities.  <br><br>It has a <strong><a href=\"#scientifique\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#scientifique\">Scientific Council<\/a><\/strong> whose mission is to advise the association on all matters of a historical or scientific nature.  <br><br>The <strong><a href=\"#honneur\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#honneur\">Honorary Committee<\/a><\/strong> of the Institut Jean Monnet is made up of a limited number of personalities who have played an important role in resolving or understanding the major challenges facing Europe in the <sup>20th<\/sup> century, sometimes alongside Jean Monnet.<br><br>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/institutjeanmonnet.eu\/en\/institute-board\/\">Institute Council<\/a><\/strong>is an enlarged body that brings together a wide data-block-id=\"180f3d0\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text has-text-align-left\">Daniela Schwarzer joined the Bertelsmann Foundation Board of Directors in May 2023, where she is responsible for programs and projects on the future of Europe, as well as democracy and cohesion. Since 2021, she has been Executive Director of the Open Society Foundation for Europe and Eurasia. She is also a director of the Jacques Delors Institute, of the United Europe Foundation (Hamburg) and of BNP Paribas. Prior to joining Open Society, Daniela headed the German Institute for International Relations (DGAP). Prior to that, she was director of research, the Berlin office and the Europe program of the German Marshall Fund in the United States. From 2005 to 2013, she worked for the German Institute for International and Security Policy (SWP) where she headed the European Integration department from 2008. From 1999 to 2004, she worked for the FT Deutschland, as an editorialist and correspondent in France, after having been project manager and then director of the information department for the Association for European Monetary Union (AUME) in Paris. , between 1996 and 1999. Daniela is Honorary Professor of Political Science at Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin and Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School&#8217;s Belfer Center. He is the author of numerous authoritative biographies, including Georges Pompidou (1984), Jean Monnet (1995), Charles de Gaulle (2002), Pierre Mend\u00e8s France (2007), Fran\u00e7ois Mitterrand. From the intimate to the political (2015), and Val\u00e9ry Giscard d&#8217;Estaing (2018). His work has been crowned with numerous prizes and awards, including the Essay Prize from the French Academy, the Guizot Prize from the Calvados Departmental Council, and the European History Prize for his biography of Jean Monnet alone. The Charles Aubert Prize of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences was awarded to him for all of his work. He was President of the Institut Pierre-Mend\u00e8s-France from 2007 to 2016. He is also a Senior Research Scholar at the Yale Law School. He was Charles Evans Hughes Visiting Professor (Government and Jurisprudence) at Colgate University, Sol M. Linowitz Visiting Professor (International Relations) at Hamilton College, Professor and Senior Director, Center for Strategic Research, National Defense University, University Counsel and Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs and Professor at the State University of New York, and Charles H. Stockton Chair (International Law) at the US Naval War College. Nicholas has also served as Legal and Policy Advisor to the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Staff Director of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Counsel and Deputy Director of the House Select Committee on Military and Trade Issues with China, Special Assistant to Presidents Reagan and George HW Bush for National Security Affairs and Legal Adviser to the National Security Council, and Special Assistant to the Legal Adviser to the U.S. State Department. In 2016 he founded and took over the management of the Natural Diamond Council, a professional association acting on behalf of diamond mining companies including De Beers, Rio Tinto and Alrosa, to promote the category and defend the interests of the diamond sector. Since 2020, he has devoted himself to his personal and family projects, including the creation of the Jean Monnet Institute.
