{"id":703536,"date":"2025-02-03T11:26:37","date_gmt":"2025-02-03T10:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/institutjeanmonnet.eu\/towards-a-common-european-defense-strategy\/"},"modified":"2025-02-25T11:54:47","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T10:54:47","slug":"towards-a-common-european-defense-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/institutjeanmonnet.eu\/en\/towards-a-common-european-defense-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Towards a common European defense strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><em>&#8220;Situations of a similar nature have provoked in me, at different times, the same reflexes, expressed naturally in the same formulas: &#8220;unity of vision and action&#8221;, &#8220;overall conception&#8221;, &#8220;pooling of resources&#8221;.<\/em><br\/>Jean Monnet<\/p>\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">At a time when Ukraine, a candidate for membership of the European Union, is being attacked by Russia, the United States is its main military ally, highlighting the limits of the Union&#8217;s and its members&#8217; ability to intervene at the very gates of its territory.  <\/p>\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">With this in mind, we propose a proven method for accelerating the development and implementation of a common European defense strategy, in line with the European Commission&#8217;s work and proposals in this area.<a href=\"https:\/\/legrandcontinent.eu\/fr\/2022\/06\/10\/vers-une-strategie-de-defense-europeenne-commune\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-143782\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>. This strategy will be based on a comprehensive, accurate and shared assessment of the Union&#8217;s current defense capabilities. It will be based on the clear formulation of a common defense ambition, taking into account the risks, threats and opportunities facing the European Union.
