Parliament 2024

The Institut Jean Monnet and Cinétévé, producer of the TV series “Parlement”, have joined forces to encourage young people to vote in the 2024 European elections through a campaign broadcasting original video clips.

Drawing on the popularity of the “Parlement” series and its characters – 7 million viewers in France and almost 3 million in Germany – the #Parlement2024 campaign took up the quirky, humorous tone that has made the series such a success. Eight 30-second video clips featured the series’ fetish characters engaging in zany but truthful exchanges to illustrate the importance of making your voice heard at the European poll in June 2024.

A shared campaign open to all

The eight video clips, available in 3 formats (9:16, 16:9, 4:5), are freely available below for all associations and organizations wishing to contribute to their distribution. The campaign, produced in collaboration with Cinétévé’s German partner Studio Hamburg, was launched simultaneously in France and Germany, and was available with English subtitles in other EU countries.

The Institut Jean Monnet and Cinétévé relied on the campaign’s originality and its open, inclusive character to mobilize an influential group of players involved in European and civic life (civil society, associations, press, individuals…) This viral campaign on social networks had the sole aim of maximizing citizen participation in the European vote on June 9, 2024 (June 8 in certain overseas territories).

With the participation and support of France Télévisions, the Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires Étrangères, the European Parliament and Studio Hamburg Serienwerft.

The “Parliament” series

The Parliament series follows the journey of Samy, a young parliamentary assistant, to the heart of the various European institutions. He began his career in the Parliament, where he knew very little, as an assistant to Michel Specklin, a French MEP.

In season 2, he continues to work alongside Valentine Cantel, an ambitious newly-elected MEP, before becoming a political advisor in season 3. Catapulted into this complex world, our hero uses his cunning and wit to navigate his way through power games, political intrigue, diplomatic issues and personal challenges.

In the course of the series, Samy discovers the workings and dysfunctions of the various European institutions – the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Council – the role of lobbies, the rivalries between the different member states and the colorful characters who represent them.

They include Rose the Englishwoman, Martin Kraft the German, Guido the Italian and the impenetrable Eamon, model of the incorruptible European civil servant. Through them, Europe takes shape and comes to life as a group of men and women driven, in the final analysis, by the desire to work together beyond their differences and particular interests. While tackling important questions about the future of Europe and the challenges facing the European Union, Parlement offers an entertaining, humorous and often very realistic insight into how this institution and European politics work together.”
