On September 22, 2026, Grand Cognac and the Jean Monnet Institute hosted an evening discussion at the Hôtel Chais Monnet dedicated to Jean Monnet, a native of Cognac and a leading figure in European integration. The event brought together nearly 120 participants to discuss his legacy, his approach, and his connection to his hometown.
Following an introductory lecture by Jean-Marc Lieberherr Monnet, Jean Monnet’s grandson and president of the Jean Monnet Institute, the discussion focused on the influence of Cognac—its international outlook and commercial activity—on Jean Monnet’s vision and approach. The evening also provided an opportunity to reflect on how to better integrate this founding figure into the region’s identity, influence, and future.
This gathering marks the beginning of a collaboration that is set to continue in order to keep Jean Monnet’s European legacy alive in Cognac and throughout the region.
